The Solar Charging Station Point. One was designed by LAVA architects for the German electromobility provider Eight. The prototype was first exhibited at eCarTec Munich, the leading trade fair for electromobility, in October 2011. designtoproduction developed the construction system for the structure. The system enables the construction of curved "free-form" objects with planar metal sheets (3 mm aluminum panels in case of the Point. One station). Through exploitation of their elastic bending capabilities, the custom pre-cut sheets can simply be plugged into position, where they are being fixed by custom node plates. This allows for the materialization of seemingly complex objects by fairly simple and cost-effective means, pre-cutting all necessary parts in the factory and only assembling them on-site in a straightforward and clean process.
