Issue No. 5/2010 of the German architecture magazine "Detail" is focusing on the balance between the analog and the digital in current architectural practice.

Alongside contributions from Achim Menges, Christiano Ceccato, Tobias Walliser and others, designtoproduction partner Fabian Scheurer gives a detailed insight into the planning and fabrication process of two recent projects by architect Shigeru Ban: the timber roof structures for the Centre Pompidou in Metz (France) and the Hasley Nine Bridges Resort in Yeoju (South Korea). Both projects would have been impossible to realize without digital planning and fabrication tools, but also showcase the limits of digital automation as well as the importance of a smart partnering with analog methods.
