On the occasion of renovation and extension of their facilities, the psychiatric center in Herisau, Switzerland, commissioned artist Bernard Tagwerker with the design of an artwork populating the walls in the day rooms. Tagwerker's design comprises a series of wooden acoustic panels rendering texts by Swiss author Robert Walser (who had been patient at the clinic between 1933 and 1956) into machine-readable Barcode. designtoproduction carried out the complete digital process from converting the text into Barcode symbols to the generation of machining data for the timber fabricator. A total of 16 panels featuring 4165 characters or 20672 individual saw cuts were produced. |
